Continuing the Race - January 2006 |
Dear Friends,
Last year ended with reflection on the marathon of ministry. This new year begins with the anticipation of continuing the race. We look forward to all that God has in store for us and the ministry.
We will continue doing many of the activities that are already in place. These
include three noon Bible studies on base (Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday); Tuesday night mens and ladies Bible study; twice a month
craft nights on Tuesday; Thursday night dock visitation; Friday night
family Bible study; meals on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday; food pantry
ministry where we are able to help out many families (and the Center
food budget); counseling and discipleship; special activities like
baseball games and picnics; and lots of sweat and paperwork..
We also will take up new challenges and goals:
- This year started with the need to replace a heating unit at the Center costing $2,500. We also will not receive several thousand dollars in Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) funds this year. Along
with some other projects we would like to accomplish, we face great
financial opportunities for God to show Himself strong and the Lords
people to demonstrate their generosity.
- Capt Mike Jordan is starting a new naval unit called Riverines which will be stationed at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek. He
was instrumental in helping start our EOD Bible study and we are hoping
another Bible study can be started at this new command.
- Feburary 4th John is running in the Norfolk Half Marathon with Marine Colonel Steve Collins. This should be a good time of mutual encouragement. Time has also been spent running with Army Specialist Mat Tubbs. He hopes the Lord gives him some other opportunities this year to run as well as continue to workout with EOD.
- We
hope to spend more time developing relationships with local chaplains,
those who attend the Bible studies, and especially new military
personnel. Sandy is looking into making
contact with the director of the ombudsmen program so that information
about the Center can be provided for each ship.
- Sandy
will be ending her current Bible study with the ladies in a few weeks
and seeks wisdom as she looks into starting another short term one
until summer and then beginning a fuller one in the fall.
Thank you for partnering with us on this race and journey. Your prayers and financial support are essential for us to win the crown. We thank God for you.
Serving the One Who Finished the Race,
John & Sandy Seaton
